Faculty

All the AUNA professors are academically qualified instructors holding Ph.Ds from prestigious American universities. They also are experienced executives and distinguished business professionals.

By using a variety of innovative pedagogical tools such as case studies, simulations, softwares, Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS), applied assignments, field studies, research projects, presentations using PowerPoint slides, internships, and experiential learning, the professors will prepare the students to join the business world with world-class competencies, expertise and skills.

Dr. Vrabec has recently arrived from the Dubai, UAE, where he had been a member of the business faculty at the country’s largest public institution of higher education. In addition to the UAE, Dr. Vrabec has previously taught in Europe and the United States. His teaching experiences have been extensive in business, law and ethics at both the graduate and undergraduate level. Dr. Vrabec possesses a Juris Doctorate from Cleveland State University – the Cleveland Marshall College of Law, A Masters in Business in Administration from the Thunderbird School of Global Management and a Bachelor of Arts in Politics and Government from Ohio Wesleyan University. Dr. Vrabec has practiced law for over 30 years and is a licensed practicing attorney (Ohio). He has served on several Fortune 500 companies’ corporate counsel staff(s) and he has previously served as a government attorney at the Ohio Attorney General’s Office. In addition, he has extensive experience as an entrepreneur in the insurance, mortgage and nuclear industries.

Mr. Johnson has also held Senior Management positions in international banks and audit and consulting firms and is an experienced international development specialist. Thomas Lee received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from University of Saskatchewan, Canada and his Ph.D. degree from Yale University. He is currently an Associate Professor of Information and Decision Sciences with University of Illinois at Chicago, IL, USA.

His teaching interest is in the general areas of Risk Management, Actuarial Science, Operations Research, Optimization Models and Methods, Production & Operations Management. Some of the courses he's taught include Risk Management, Enterprise Risk Management, Insurance, Risk Theory, Optimization Models and Methods, Stochastic Models and Methods, Supply Chain Management, Service Operations Management, Production & Operations Management, and Business Model Simulation.

Some of his research work has appeared in journals such as Operations Research, Mathematics of Operations Research, Management Science, Queueing Systems and European Journal of Operational Research. He is currently serving as an associate editor for the International Journal of Data Analysis Techniques and Strategies, International Journal of Information Systems in the Service Sector and International Journal of Information & Decision Sciences.

Hafedh Hlila is a retired assistant professor of English linguistics and a long and rich experience in teaching undergraduate and post-graduate courses in formal linguistics (phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, and semantics) and teaching English as a foreign language.

He was a member of the scientific council of the “Institut Supérieur des Langues de Tunis” for over ten consecutive years and participated actively in the institute’s academic and cultural life. He participated actively in designing the undergraduate curriculum for English major and the curriculum for the MA program in applied linguistics. He was head of exam jury for the graduating class in the English Department for several years; headed several department and college committees; was a member of the recruitment jury for teaching assistants at the national level; chaired conference sessions on several occasions.

Siddhartha Bhattacharyya received his PhD from the University of Florida. He is a Professor and Department Head of Information and Decision Sciences in the College of Business Administration at the University of Illinois, Chicago.

His research focuses on data intensive applications, information management, agent based models and evolutionary computation.  He is currently working on multiple projects involving the use of large-scale data to address business problems.  His work appears in journals such  as Complex Systems, Decision Support Systems, Decision Sciences, Evolutionary Computation, IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation, INFORMS Journal of Computing, Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control, Social Networks, and in various conferences like ICDM, KDD, HT. H

He teaches courses in business data mining and technology project management and has received multiple teaching awards.

Kyle Cheek received his B.S and Master of Arts in Political Science from Midwestern State University, the Master of Public Affairs and Ph.D. from University of Texas at Dallas. He is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor of Information and Decision Sciences and Director of the Center for Research in Information Management (CRIM) at the University of Illinois-Chicago.

Some of his research papers appeared in journals such as Albany Law Review, Government, Law and Policy Journal, Judicature, Jurimetrics, Willamette Law Review, Fordham Urban Law Journal. He has also contributed to several conferences and lectures all while preparing a book « Managing Analytics ».

Mary Beth Watson-Manheim is Professor of Information Systems and Director of Graduate Studies in the Information and Decision Sciences Department of the College of Business Administration at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

She was named a Fulbright-Nehru Senior Research Scholar to India in 2009. In 2007, she received the UIC College of Business Administration Distinguished Faculty Award. Prof. Watson-Manheim is actively involved in research on the managerial, social and educational implications of a global and ICT–intensive workplace. Her research has been published in many leading journals and conferences and has received a number of national and international awards, including winner of the AIS 2012 Best Publication of the Year in information Systems Discipline. Before pursuing her Ph.D., Dr. Watson-Manheim was employed for 10 years in the telecommunications industry.

She has extensive teaching experience having taught Knowledge Management Systems to both graduate (MBA and MS MIS) and undergraduate students, Project Management and a Project-Based IS Development course, Electronic Commerce and Information Systems in Organizations.

Maureen has recently arrived from Cleveland, Ohio, where she has accumulated over 25 years of Accounting experience as a Senior Financial Analyst for the two largest hospital systems in Northeastern Ohio; the Cleveland Clinic Foundation and University Hospital Health System. She has also worked in other industries such as telecommunications and energy. She has extensive experience in corporate training in the field of budgeting, auditing and corporate compliance. Maureen possesses a Master’s in Business Administration from Lake Erie College, and a Bachelor of Arts, in Accounting from Baldwin Wallace College.

Souad Halila, PhD in History from the University of Southern California is Assistant Professor of History and Cultural Studies at the University of Tunis El-Manar. She is A three time Fulbright scholar and a frequent speaker at national and international conferences, Halila’s research, teaching and speaking activities have two primary focuses: US history, historiography and historical trends crossing gender, race, youth, religion and popular culture as they pertain to African and Arab Americans on the one hand, and Geo-History, Muslim and Arab issues in the MENA region on the other. She recently contributed a chapter on “Rap and Islamism in Post-Revolutionary Tunisia: Local Idiosyncrasies and Global Reverberations” in Islamism and Cultural Expression in the Arab World, published in London: Routledge, 2015.

Doug Lundquist received his B.S, M.S and Ph.D degree from university of Illinois at Chicago. As an instructor at the University of Illinois at Chicago, he has teached several courses including Enterprise Information Infrastructure Planning & Security, Introduction to Business Programming and Management Information Systems, Business Objects Programming Using Java, Web Analytics, Operations Management. His research interest focuses on the development of Self-Balancing Supply/Demand (SBSD) ad hoc routing protocols while he worked extensively with Java-based network and mobility simulators.
